In Alabama, a shop sells unclaimed baggage
An American store in Alabama has specialised in the recovery of unclaimed baggage and selling the contents.
In the USA, the law concerning unclaimed baggage in airports is simple: passengers have 120 days to reclaim their goods, otherwise they no longer belong to them.
In 1970, an American had the original idea of purchasing unclaimed baggage at a low price in airports across the country and then selling them in a shop.
Located in Alabama, in the south of the States, the shop has gradually grown and is now 4,600m2 as of 2016.
Everything is meticulously stocked in the aisles: luggage, underwear, toiletries, headphones, Smartphones and a wide range of other goods. The prices are very reasonable given that they range from a 20% to 80% discount on the initial price.
A sign that business is going well is that the store keeps growing. It has even become a tourist attraction which welcomes more than a million visitors each year. The founder is now helped by a huge number of assistants who scour airports around the country to get a good deal.
