Having to brush off over-attentive sales assistants is often an ordeal for customers who just want to do their shopping in peace. To avoid this problem, skincare brand Clinique has set-up a clever system of coloured bracelets in its shops.

Clinique’s bracelet system allows customers to shop in peace

In the skincare retailer’s London, New York and more recently Paris stores, Clinique has introduced the SAYLI (Service As You Like It) system. Customers can now choose a plastic bracelet upon entering the shop. It works as follows: pink if you don’t want to be approached by a sales assistant, white if you’d like some brief tips, and green for in-depth advice and beauty expertise.

Customers not wishing to wear a flashy bracelet may take a bag from under a sign stating that women carrying a bag will not be approached by sales assistants but may ask for advice. Customers can now choose a shopping style that suits them best, and the approach has received positive reviews.

Sales assistants also benefit from this system: they are no longer rebuffed by customers who don’t want to be bothered, and have more time for focus on customers’ in-search of some real beauty expertise!
