In Austin, Texas, socially-conscious restaurant, Halfsies, is fighting both world hunger and obesity at once!
Halfsies is a new American restaurant concept spearheaded by an American restaurant that gives its customers the chance to do their bit for world hunger by giving up part of their meal.
The creators of Halfsies describe their concept as “a social initiative offering restaurant-goers a choice that provides a healthier meal portion, reduces food waste and fights hunger.”
In practice, it goes like this: as they place their order, charitable customers can opt to “go halfsies”, meaning they choose to receive only half a normal portion size, while still paying for a full portion. 25% of their payment then goes to organisations engaged in the fight against hunger.
Put simply, this ethical restaurant empowers customers to make a contribution, in their own small way, towards a united goal.
