In Madrid, a bookshop has started selling books by the kilo
Pay for your books not based on the author’s talent or book title, but according to weight: here’s an original idea put in place by La Casquería in Madrid.
It’s an idea inspired by second-hand shops where sales are often done by weight. In fact, the thought process seems to be much deeper.
A book is composed of two elements: tangible material (paper, ink…) and content (encyclopaedic, poetic…). Given that the second, a heritage which belongs to everyone and is a cultural source, is difficult to value and would be inappropriate to attach a price to based on its quality, La Casquería has opted for the first option: paying for the material, by weight.
This bookshop’s project is collective and defends, in its own way, the distribution of culture and the recycling of books through the sale of second-hand books.
