In New York, start-up business Dashlocker is saving its customers valuable time by texting them when their laundry’s ready for pick-up.

In New York, launderettes are now texting customers when their laundry is ready

The current 4 sites owned by the launderette work on the principle of locker storage units, where customers can drop off their dirty laundry 24/7. After creating an account with the launderette, they can simply send an SMS to Dashlocker stating their locker number each time they drop off a load of laundry. Dashlocker then pick up the customers’ laundry, wash them on a separate site, then delivers the clean, ironed laundry back to the customer’s specified locker.

Customers will then receive an SMS or email notifying them that their laundry is ready to collect, and can drop by when they have the time to do so. No longer do they need to set aside hours each weekend to clean their laundry, waiting for machines and guarding their loads.

Dashlocker is hoping to collaborate with large office buildings which could potentially let out a small space for lockers to be installed on the ground floor, working in the same way as the current locker system. Dashlocker would clean and dry their customers’ laundry off-site. A very handy service for busy customers with hectic schedules, such as bankers and lawyers.
