In Paris, a Smart Store where customers can try out products in-store or at home before buying
Inspired by the ‘sample labs’ in Tokyo, this retailers invites its customers to try out the innovative products on offer.
Inside, a first room is dedicated to cosmetics: each product is displayed with an explanatory label and comes with a large number of samples.
Next come the drinks and food, to try out in-store or take away for free, subject to filling out a questionnaire giving your view on these new innovative products.
The store offers a very appealing subscription system: for 10 Euros, customers
can try out food products in-store, attend events and art exhibitions and receive 5 samples per week. More than 300 brands have trusted Smart Store and offer their innovative products to the public in this way.
The concept plays on the ‘sample’ and ‘trydvertising’ trend (advertising through testing). Customers are not buyers but rather purchasing advisers: generating a buzz over the new products they try, helping to improve them by giving the shop their opinion.
