In Tokyo the Baby Cafe is dedicated to children from 0-7 years old
In Tokyo, the Tokyo Baby Cafe is aimed at parents who want to enjoy a pleasant, relaxing time without losing sight of their children.
The Tokyo Baby Cafe wanted to come up with an innovative cafe-oasis, where children could play in total safety while their parents had a break.
The main room takes the form of a large play area, bordered with padded white barriers to stop the children from hurting themselves. We find a number of games and books for young children to enjoy. In the second section of the room, tables have been set-up: adults can enjoy their coffee while still keeping an eye on their children.
Although the Tokyo Baby Cafe was designed to guarantee a pleasant experience for little ones, its aim above all is to seduce… their parents. The café decor, sleek, modern and sophisticated, is designed to delight young mothers: “We wanted to create a perfectly safe environment for the children so that mothers would be reassured, but we didn’t want a cafe for children,” explained the director to the Japan Times.
That’s the real difference: all the other Japanese baby cafes have been designed as huge play areas with bright colours and toys strewn around the room. The Tokyo Baby Cafe, by contrast, has carefully separated the practical children’s area from the innovative coffee room, designed for adults – which makes it a meeting place for young mothers with their friends. The Japanese cafe’s menu is therefore very elaborate, offering several snacks for children but especially drinks and patisseries for their parents to ensure client satisfaction.
