In Sao Paulo, a wine store is combining oenology and technology

The Brazilian wine distributor, Mistral, has come up with the idea of a high-tech boutique-showroom in Sao Paulo.

In Sao Paulo, a wine store is combining oenology and technology

Mistral is a wine distributor that carries out the majority of its sales online. Its first physical store opened in 2013 in Sao Paulo.

Architecture studio Arthur Casas, in charge of the design of this unique location, was eager to combine two diametrically opposed universes: the traditional wine industry and the more modern, interactive digital industry.

The store features a sales space, a refrigerated cellar, an interactive gallery and a library, as well as a tasting area.

Bottles are stored in a particularly original fashion: integrated into the wall by the neck, with the body suspended and label turned up to facilitate reading.

The store also stands out thanks to its high-tech equipment: customers can choose the bottle of wine they desire, and then place it on an ‘interactive table’, which, thanks to sensors, recognises the bottle and shows information about the vintage on a screen.

The Mistral store therefore offers a learning, interactive experience, which is far-removed from the traditional wine merchant.
