In Toronto, a vegetarian butcher has opened
YamChops is a Canadian butcher in Toronto which stands out from the crowd because it’s impossible to buy… meat.
The YamChops butcher is located in the Italian quarter of Toronto. The butcher’s founder, Mike Abramson, has been a vegetarian for more than 40 years. He had the idea of launching a new style of butcher’s which offers its customers a 100% vegetarian selection.
For him, the definition of the butcher’s role is not to work with animal meat but rather to cut and prepare general food.
He has appealed to a growing clientele who have adopted a specific diet: vegetarians, vegans, flexitarian, gluten-free or even soya-free. He also hopes to teach as many people as possible about meat alternatives without converting them to a strict diet.
The butcher therefore offers a wide range of meat substitutes, including a range of steaks and sausages, all developed using vegetable proteins.
YamChops also offers a selection of ready-prepared dishes, grocer’s products and fresh fruit juice to have on-site or take home.
